Biggest learning from your career?

When I was 4, I told my parents that I wanted to be a professional baseball player. That dream died when I was 12 and couldn’t hit a curveball.  Heartbreaker. My professional aspirations fell well short and despite feeling like a failure, I now realize I was not. Hindsight and perspective reinforce the fact that we can’t predict the future. What we can do as individuals is to be. Be present. Be prepared. Be productive. Be honest. Be kind.

What is one word to describe the last year?

Evolution and adaption. In just 12 months, we went from gas to electric. We got through an insurrection, a 1st wave, a 2nd wave, and I think a 3rd wave? Clubhouse was a thing. Meta became a thing. We went to the store and they were out of everything. Kanye and Kim were also a thing, until they weren’t. It’s just a bit unbelievable what we as humans have encountered and how we continue to be forced to make decisions without precedent. I guess that is part of evolving and adapting.

What is the best advice you can give for hybrid working?

Building and maintaining relationships is hard work, but is imperative to success. Hybrid working makes healthy relationships nearly impossible without proactivity. It’s not a process, it is purpose. When your internal voice has a thought or question - reach out. There is a good chance someone else has the same wonders. If someone needs a hand or a shoulder, provide it. Pay it forward. Karma recycles.

How have you stayed inspired?

I don’t know what I don’t know. What questions should I be asking? Who should I be listening to? An eclectic mix of multi-media helps fuel inspiration. I’m listening to podcasts (hit me up, love to hear what you’re listening to), reading new books (I trade off nonfiction to fiction), and I may be the only digital guy who still subscribes to magazines. Bon Appetit, Men's Journal, Family Handyman, Outside Magazine. There are a ton of amazing stories out there!
