Managing Director

Biggest learning from your career?

Success and failure are unavoidable. How you define them is your choice. Just because someone long ago decided that one means good and the other bad, doesn’t mean you have to. Try to not judge the path that got you. Use it as a tool to make your next steps better. For me, it’s always been better to focus on learning from my wins and losses rather than worry about them.

We preach “test and learn” to our clients, taking risk and optimizing performance. Why don’t we do this more for ourselves?

One word to describe the last year?

Roundabout.

The theory that “time is a flat circle” assumes we live in an infinite loop, our lives repeating, always the same. There’s no doubt most of us felt this way as the doldrums of COVID kept on. But a roundabout is a circle with many exits, some forwards, others backwards. As an American, it may have taken me longer to figure this out. I found my exit to the circle and am looking forward to the road ahead.

Wait, what year is it anyways?

Best advice you gave out about working differently?

Working from home isn’t the same as working in the office. Instead of trying to manage your time, prioritize your focus. Is this a meeting that requires a quiet space and your best effort? Do you really have to finish that spreadsheet tonight? I’m not recommending you stop working hard, but that you work harder on what matters and smarter on everything in between. Don’t let the clock dictate your work. Take back your time and work with your manager to prioritize your focus.

How have you stayed inspired?

Going all in on something new to keep my brain moving. For a couple months I tried to learn how to DJ, I had a week-long fight with a rubics cube and spent years building computers. The moment my interest wanes, I move on to next project. How can my inspiration stop when my list of ideas never ends?
